About Mold
What is Mold?
Mold is a term that refers to any type of fungus that grows on plants and fibers in moist, damp conditions. Mold grows readily under these environments often found in bathrooms, basements, and attic areas.
Tiny spores travel through the air which settle on wet areas where they continue to rapidly grow and breed. Mold enjoys conditions typically above 60% humidity and will grow on surfaces such as wood, paneling, wallpaper, tiles, wallboards, and carpets. It will slowly digest the surface it is growing on, eventually taking it beyond repair. The presence of mold in the home is a good indication of a moisture problem which should be remedied immediately.
What does mold look like?
Mold comes in many different colors and textures. It can look white, gray, black, brown, yellow, or greenish in color. Mold is often seen as velvety, cottony, granular, or shiny. Mold spores are invisible to the naked eye. These tiny particles can remain inactive for long periods of time, waiting for the perfect growing conditions to reproduce and spread.
